Greetings. I'm Briton Kolber, the only Briton Kolber on the entire internet and, apparently, the world. From a young age, I've embraced being a little unusual, while also trying to fit in by pretending to be someone I wasn't, hoping to be liked.
I often felt out of place, being the son of an immigrant, and nobody noticed any clues in my appearance. I used to speak with an accent and frequently viewed the world differently. For instance, I imagined boats with wheels, not just cars and trucks. I recognized cultural biases and limitations long before they were formally taught, as I experienced them firsthand. I understand what it feels like to be seen but not truly understood.
Utilizing these sometimes painful experiences, I aimed to embody the care I wished to see more of in the world. Although I faced dismissal and ridicule at times, I persevered.
I waited until I was 34 to pursue graduate school because I didn't realize it was possible to care deeply without feeling overwhelmed emotionally. I also believed that therapy should be a free support system for friends. However, I've learned that such relationships can be transformative, allowing me to make a real difference—in fact, I can achieve even more through the incredible connections formed in this context.
Over time, I discovered my passion for helping people become better versions of themselves. With various jobs and experiences that relate to yours, I eventually enrolled in graduate school for psychology at Antioch University Seattle, graduating in 2012 and establishing my private practice since then.
What truly excites me is offering geek-centered therapy. I have made significant strides with socially awkward individuals, passionate con attendees, cosplayers, D&D players, sci-fi enthusiasts, philosophers, engineers, scientists, coders, developers, and things often neurodivergent and "neurospicy."
My specialties focus on the common issues faced by geeks. I address the kind of depression that can leave you feeling empty, stressed, disconnected, and unsatisfied. I support individuals, couples, and families grappling with the grind of inboxes, deadlines, and the chaos of daily life.
Are you struggling with your sexual and gender expressions or identities? Do you have trauma or the challenges of ADHD? My advanced training in these areas equips me to help. As a (cis-gendered) heterosexual male, I constantly work on acknowledging my privileges while remaining inclusive of conservative views and families, all while embracing social justice practices. If you're seeking neurospicy therapy, neurodivergent therapy or psychotherapy tailored to your unique needs, I am here to assist.
