Great. But how much is it?

While I am passionate about making sure there is value in every session, it still costs money. I charge US$190 per 50-minute session. Therapy can be a little as one session. That actually happened once. It can also be years long. The average with me is about 6-9 months, so that might be a good way to budget for you.

Median rate for the state of Washington is $130. I'm charging in the upper middle range because of experience and a track record of pretty happy clients.

What about insurance?

I do not take insurance, but do offer superbills for reimbursement upon request. I charge US$190 per 50-minute session. For context, one client with Amazon's Premera coverage was reimbursed $147.76 per session. Some people have no out of network coverage.

My Story

Geek-Centered Therapy: Empowering You to Live Your Best Life

Greetings. I'm Briton Kolber. I'm the only Briton Kolber on the entire internet, and apparently, the world. I've gotten used to being a little unusual from a small age. And yet I also masked try to to fit in. I pretended a bit so that I would be liked.

I rarely fit in or belonged. I am the son of an immigrant, but nobody noticed anything about my appearance that gave them a clue. I used to speak with an accent and almost always saw things differently. I saw that boats also had wheels on them instead of just cars and trucks. I saw cultural bias and limitations before it was taught because I experienced it firsthand. I know what it is like to be seen, but not understood.

I took these sometimes painful experiences and tried to be the care I wanted to see more of. Sometimes I was dismissed--if not ridiculed.

I waited until I was 34 to start graduate school because I didn't know it was possible to care as much as I do without being overwhelmed emotionally. I also thought therapy should be something you do for free for your friends. I've since learned that even with this kind of relationship, I can really make a difference. In fact, I can do even more because of how amazing this relationship can be for all involved.

Over time, I found that I had a knack and passion for helping people be better versions of themselves. Chances are I've had a job or experience that relates to yours. Many jobs, failed ventures, aborted careers, and lots of lovely experiences later, I enrolled in graduate school for psychology at Antioch University Seattle. I finished in 2012 and have been in private practice ever since.

What really lights me up is helping geeks. I have done great work with the socially awkward, the obsessed, the passionate con attenders, the cosplayers, the D&D players, the sci-fi enthusiasts, the philosophers, the engineers, the scientists, the coders, the developers, and so much more.

My specialties revolve around the most common issues facing geeks. I see the kind of depression that leaves you feeling empty, stressed, disconnected, and unsatisfied. I have helped people frazzled from a grind of inboxes and deadlines and deliverables and sloppy code and utter pointlessness. I help the individuals, couples, and families with all of these issues.

Do you have problems because of your sexual and gender expressions and identities? Do you have trauma? Do you have the chaos of ADHD? I have advanced training in those. I'm a (cis-gendered) heterosexual male and I'm always doing my own work to own the privileges that I have. I'm also inclusive of conservative views and families while embracing social justice practices.
